Awareness Creation on Threats to Pollinators and Training on Bee Keeping Techniques

Summary of Training workshop

The training took place on the 25th and 26th of July, 2024 at Muslim Grammar School, Igboho, Orelope LGA, Oyo State from 9am to 4pm daily.

The two-day event commenced on the first day by 9am with registration of participants, introduction of guests and overview of the training, and later followed by briefs on BESNet and the other Supporting agencies. The lectures which were on Pollinators and their Importance, Threats to Pollinators, and Essentials of Bee keeping were taken by the resource persons. Each lecture was followed by an interactive section of question and answer.

Lectures on inclusion of pollinators friendly medicinal plants into home gardens/farms and Bee Keeping techniques were taken, this was followed by practical section on setting up of bee hives for the trainees. This section ended with distribution of the bee hives and other equipment to the trainees (Table 1 for the training schedule and Table 2 for the list of equipment).

All lectures were held in Yoruba language.

The participants had the opportunity to share their experiences on bees and what they learnt from the training (Pictures 1 to 6). The next steps were also discussed especially on follow-up by the facilitators on identification of site and subsequent setting up of the bee hives in their respective communities. Customized T-Shirts, Transportation allowance and refreshment was provided for the participants
